I’m in the process of applying for a new accessible vehicle which I can drive. \u00a0The process has been slow going, involving a number of phone calls, paperwork, and much planning.<\/p>\n
Roughly three weeks ago I met with an instructor to get a driver evaluation. \u00a0Even though the State has helped me purchase a vehicle in the past, they want to reconfirm what equipment I need, what setup is best suited for my needs, and whether I remain able to drive. \u00a0Per the evaluation process the evaluator gave me the opportunity to drive a training vehicle once more. \u00a0The experience proved … interesting.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, I live in a quiet neighborhood. \u00a0But taking the vehicle out for a spin proved a bit more challenging than anticipated. \u00a0First off, as this is a training vehicle, the controls are slightly different than the ones I had previously used, making the driving experience something akin to playing your favorite PS4 or XBox game with an Atari controller. \u00a0Second, the gap in time in which I have not been driving leaves me a bit rusty. \u00a0Per these two factors, I have to wonder what some of the other drivers thought as I drove down the street, a bit sluggish and rough. \u00a0But to be fair, the vehicle did have “Student Driver” stickers on it.<\/p>\n
But things are progressing well to set me up with a vehicle sometime this year. \u00a0And once I get the vehicle, there will be additional training to get acquainted with the new vehicle.<\/p>\n
