{"id":697,"date":"2021-06-28T00:45:53","date_gmt":"2021-06-28T00:45:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stayingfrosty.net\/WP\/wordpress\/?p=697"},"modified":"2021-06-28T00:45:53","modified_gmt":"2021-06-28T00:45:53","slug":"madison-disability-rights-commission-sidewalks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stayingfrosty.net\/WP\/2021\/06\/28\/madison-disability-rights-commission-sidewalks\/","title":{"rendered":"Madison &#8211; Disability Rights Commission &#8211; Sidewalks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, I joined the City of Madison&#8217;s <a title=\"City of Madison - Disability Rights Commission\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/city-hall\/committees\/disability-rights-commission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disability Rights Commission<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a nice opportunity to have discourse in making the City more accessible, and working with the City to share suggestions and ideas for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>During a recent discussion, the City Engineer&#8217;s office shared notes of how they plan street and sidewalk repair projects.\u00a0 Some interesting notes came up during the discussion, asking about how the streets are assessed for repairs, and how the sidewalks are assessed.\u00a0 Some interesting takeaways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The City is working on making an online map of accessible routes and sidewalks around the City of Madison.<\/li>\n<li>The City does walk throughs of sidewalks to ensure surface issues are addressed, and curb cuts are ADA compliant.\n<ul>\n<li>Though the full walkthroughs occur in 10 year cycles, problematic areas can be reported and more rapidly addressed.<\/li>\n<li>The suggestion to include individuals with mobility limitations in sidewalk assessments was made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Problematic sidewalks or curb cuts can be reported here <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/reportaproblem\/sidewalk.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.cityofmadison.com\/reportaproblem\/sidewalk.cfm<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Feel free to email me with any questions or topics of interest for the City of Madison Disability Rights Commission<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:jovialjoe@stayingfrosty.net\">jovialjoe@stayingfrosty.net<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, I joined the City of Madison&#8217;s Disability Rights Commission.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a nice opportunity to have discourse in making the City more accessible, and working with the City to share suggestions and ideas for improvement.
